The UT Archery Club is a fun mix of recreational and competitive archers. We've been around since the 70's and intend to keep hanging out, shooting, and competing for a long time.
Although we are happy to accept members interested in shooting for fun, our club also competes nationally under the rules of the United States National Archery Association/College Division.
WHAT DO WE DO?
In the fall we meet to practice indoors every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Anna Hiss Gymnasium. The archery range is in the basement on the north side of the building. After Spring Break, our outdoor season begins and we are, in general, at our outdoor range at Whittaker Fields, which is at the north end of Speedway, directly adjacent to the IM Fields. During outdoor season there is no indoor practice on Thursdays.
We generally host at least two tournaments a year, the Longhorn Invitational at the gym in mid-November and the Lone Star FITA at the field in early April. We encourage all members to shoot and to volunteer during the event. These are our biggest fundraisers.
We also attend several tournaments throughout the year, both indoor and outdoor events at College Station and around the country. In May we make a pilgrimage to the US Intercollegiate Archery Championships to compete against other collegiate archers from around the nation. We strongly encourage all our archers to join us on this trip and to compete both individually and during the relay team event. Very exciting stuff!
WHO CAN JOIN?
Just about anyone! No experience needed since we have all the equipment you need as well as beginning and advanced coaches to help everyone enjoy the sport. Membership is open to recurve, compound, and traditional bows. All bows must be under 60 lbs, and broadheads are not allowed.
You must be a currently enrolled UT student or a Faculty/Staff member signed up with RecSports to be eligible to join the club. Unless you want to sign up as a coach and help out once in a while, no other persons are allowed to join the club or to use the archery facilities.
HOW CAN I SIGN UP?
Talk to a club officer and we'll have you fill out some simple paperwork. Membership dues are $35 per semester—although we've discounted the full year price at $60 if you pay for both at once.
